Y10 OUTING - Museo de Arte Contemporáneo and Parque Rodó
The aim of this activity is to introduce students to the concept of Contemporary Art and its historical and philosophical challenges. The trip is prepared through the subjects of History, Philosophy, and Art, serving as a precursor to the final project for all three subjects.
The final project begins with a “dialogue” with the IB Visual Arts final exhibition. In the second stage, students visit the museum, and in the third, they become artists themselves, creating an object or artwork linked to philosophical or historical foundations.
The proposal includes visits to the museum’s permanent exhibition and an in-depth study of two selected works. Alongside their Art teachers, students are guided in groups to look beyond the visual presentation, reflecting on the complexity of the pieces, as well as their biographical, contextual, and philosophical underpinnings. The trip also includes a tour of Parque Rodó, where the concept of green spaces in urban areas is discussed, and their importance is explored. Students examine the park’s key sculptures and learn about its history during the visit.
Each activity develops key competencies from the national curriculum, particularly critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. The trip allows students to experience philosophical concepts taught in class within the context of both the museum and the public space of the park. Through this hands-on experience, students gain significant, high-quality learning, broadening and deepening their conceptual understanding. The ability to apply learned concepts and develop critical and reflective thinking in a real-world context is central to this project.
