Junior School
The Junior Learning Programmes blend together the key aspects of an adapted British and Uruguayan curriculum, delivered through the inquiry-based approach of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).
In accordance with the School’s Mission, while striving for academic excellence, it is equally important for us to bring out the best in each individual student. A competent, experienced and caring team of staff guides students to develop their full intellectual, creative and physical potential while recognising individual differences and needs.
There are parallel mixed-ability classes at each grade level. In addition to the Form Teacher, subject teachers work with students in the areas of The Arts (Music, Art, Drama and Dance), ICT, development of Library Skills, Spanish and Physical Education.
The wellbeing of students is a high priority for us and as such a team of dedicated professionals, including psychologists and learning support specialists, are always at hand to provide the support students need to be successful.
In Y5, the students have two exciting events. The first is the Junior Musical, and the second is the PYP Exhibition, which is the culmination of the students’ years in the PYP.
The School expects all students to become fully bilingual in English and Spanish. Most curricular subjects are taught in English, with the exception of Spanish lessons and Physical Education classes. In Y6, as a preparation for the State administered Primary Exit examinations (Prueba de Egreso), a higher percentage of formal lessons are taught in Spanish.
Sport is important in our culture, and there are regular matches against other schools in a full and varied programme.
