BOOK WEEK 2023

BOOK WEEK 2023

Book Week is an opportunity to celebrate children’s literature and promote the value of books for the education, enjoyment, and enlightenment of children.

Across Junior and Senior, children, educators and families are invited to participate in Book Week between Tuesday, 23rd and Friday, 26th May. During this week, we will have a Book Fair with plenty of books for all ages. Students will have the opportunity to visit the fair with their teachers during School hours.

All members of The British Schools Community can visit and enjoy this event. In this opportunity we invite parents to visit the Fair from 3 to 4.30pm.

These are some of the activities that will take place during the week in the Junior School:

  • Extreme Reading pictures

Parents will be invited to share pictures of their children reading in extreme places and/or positions. Soon a folder in Seesaw (EY to Y3) and in Schoology (Y4 to Y6) will be available for uploads. We will then create a video to share the pictures with our students.

  • Whole School Writing Activity

Year 1 will start writing the first paragraph of a story. Stories will travel around the School and each year group will have the opportunity to add a paragraph. The stories will be, then, shared in an assembly.

  • Throughout the week – students and teachers from Senior will read to Junior students in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Dads read aloud (Pre-Kinder to Year 6)

We believe Dads play a crucial role in children's literacy development by modelling reading, sharing stories, exploring the world together, and engaging in meaningful conversations that build critical thinking skills.

To celebrate Día Nacional del Libro, we would like to invite Dads into the classes (20 min) to read in English during the course of the week commencing on 23rd of May. Please contact your child´s Form Teacher if you would like to attend so we can schedule a time and day.

  • Book Swap (Year 1 to Year 6)

If you have any used books (English, Spanish, Portuguese) in good condition that your child would like to swap for other used books of similar condition, we invite you to bring them to School before Tuesday, 23rd May.

During their weekly scheduled library lesson (Monday, 15th – Friday, 19th), your child will have an opportunity to hand in their books to Ms Serrano and Ms Hill. In exchange, they will choose alternative age-appropriate books.

  • National Book Day (Dress Up Day for Pre-Kinder to Year 6)

On Friday, 26th May (Día Nacional del Libro) students, staff and teachers are encouraged to come dressed as a character from a book or famous author.

  • Book Donation (Pre-Kinder to Year 6)

On Friday, 26th May (Día Nacional del Libro) we would appreciate it if your child could bring in a used English, Spanish or Portuguese language book (in good condition) that they would like to donate to Broli: La Librería Solidaria. Upon entering the School, there will be strategically located large boxes where they can deposit the book that they would like to donate.

In turn, Senior will host the following activities:

  • Design a bookmark competition – entries to be submitted digitally by Monday, 22nd May.
  • During the week, students and teachers from the Senior Section will visit the Junior Section to read to students in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

  • Throughout the week we will stop lessons, for 15 minutes each day, for students and teachers to read a book that they have brought to School.

  • Tuesday, 23rd May until Thursday, 25th May – students are invited to bring a book to School that they have read and swap it for another book that they would like to read. The books must be in good condition. This activity takes place in the Library.

  • Friday, 26th May – students and teachers are encouraged come dressed as a character from a book or a famous author. On this day students are invited to bring a book, which is in good condition, that we will donate to one of the institutions that we support.
