The Glass Menagerie
THE GLASS MENAGERIE
On Tuesday, 14th August, 5YL and 6YL students had the opportunity to see the text they read for their IB English course come alive on the stage.
The EET (English Educational Theatre) cast comprised of Virginia Isaris, Santiago Infantozzi, Maru Sus, and Nicolás Martínez produced a brilliant version, fire-escape ladder included, of Tennessee William’s well-known memory play.
Amanda, the mother, Laura her fragile daughter, Tom the character/narrator all were vividly and convincingly portrayed, carrying the audience away with their issues and problems.
Students were able to recognise the staging elements they had studied which work to communicate the visions of the author and the director, such as the smoke used instead of gauze curtains, the set, the costumes, and glass menageries well as the photographs with quotes or headings for each situation.
Altogether it was a memorable performance that enhanced the students' interpretation and understanding of this moving presentation of truth as illusion.
