Y11 - IB GEOGRAPHY AND BIOLOGÍA OUTING

IB Geography and Biología students embarked on a collaborative educational expedition, organised by the Humanities and Science Departments, to explore two nature reserves: "Arroyo de Pan de Azúcar" and "Monte y Matorral Psamófilo" in Solís on Tuesday, 14th November. The guided tour was led by Jeanine Beare, alumna of our School, veterinarian, and highly knowledgeable expert in Uruguay’s ecology. She is also the co-founder of the NGO "Flora y Fauna Indigena," which manages these reserves.

This excursion provided a fantastic opportunity for students to delve into various ecosystems, gaining insight into their inherent value. The experience was not only educational but also enjoyable, as students engaged in activities ranging from tasting edible flowers to identifying crabs on the beach. The active learning process focused on understanding the significance of indigenous and invasive flora and fauna, allowing students to visualise the impact of natural and human processes on coastal, riverine, and grassland ecosystems.

Accompanying the students on this enriching journey were teachers Leticia Desmullier, Bernadette Keane, and Elizabeth Pechiar.
