BUDDY SYSTEM

BUDDY SYSTEM

The Buddy System was born thanks to a 6YL students' concern that students entering 1YL should have a baccalaureate referent to help them in everything related to a successful introduction to Senior school life. What better than a student who has already passed through that stage to advise, warn, accompany and contain a student who suddenly arrives in a new building, and begins to have many subjects and teachers?

The Wellbeing department received this idea with great enthusiasm, and from there, together with 6YL students, after various planning and implementing ideas, finally, the original concern was harvested; as of last Friday, each 1YL (Cub) student has a baccalaureate reference student (Lion). In this first meeting, they were able to meet and have a first "mano a mano" to get to know each other, to know their mutual interests, what things they are finding challenging so far and in which areas they need more help.

The Wellbeing team will be monitoring that each Lion is able to meet the demands of the role and, of course, intervene if required.

The Lions, for their part, had an induction day to the Buddy System, and on Saturday 30th April they came to the school to find out more about what the role entails.

Finally, around ninety students from 4YL, 5YL and 6YL volunteered to be Lions, demonstrating that at The British Schools empathy and being attentive to each other's process is a priority for everyone.
