9th SOUTH AMERICAN PIPE BAND GATHERING
On Saturday, 29th October the School opened its doors to one of the most important events of this gathering: the group competition of South American pipe bands, percussionists and dancers, related to Scottish culture. The different groups were judged by renowned international judges who came from Scotland, Canada and the United States.
More than ten bands took part, travelling from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Canada and Uruguay. From Uruguay, one Uruguayan band, Latitude 33º Pipe Band, took part in the competition and was crowned with the 2nd place overall in the competition.
The event was a true Scottish party, so much so that even the weather matched the shifting British climate.
Scottish Dance Uruguay participated as a dance troupe with a competition performance and a demonstration performance in which they fused traditional Scottish culture with Uruguayan roots by incorporating a drum string in the latter dance, which made the whole audience vibrate.
The large group of dancers, which included The British Schools’ students and their Scottish Dance teachers, were the winners of the Best Over All prize for dancing.
The students from the School are
- Lucía Estol
- Martina Fernández
- Olivia Fernández
- Isabel Guelfi
- Federica Vidiella
Their teachers: Mercedes Lockling and Catalina Williman.
Many thanks to all those who accompanied this unique event that took place again in Uruguay after 18 years.
