PLAYGROUND BUDDIES
The idea of having Playground Buddies came from a discussion between the Head of Junior, Mr Mallon and the Form 6 Prefects, with the idea being to implement it during playtimes. Delfina Fernández, Florencia Novogrebelsky and Tanya Bunt created a powerpoint to explain to other students what it is about.
The Playground Buddy System promotes inclusion between students and provides opportunities for students to display cooperation and empathy. We have started trialling the system with the Form 4 generation with the hope of expanding this further next year.
The aforementioned Prefects went to all the Form 4 classrooms and explained the role of the playground buddy. To be a playground Buddy you have to show many of the IB Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes: CARING, REFLECTIVE, PRINCIPLED, OPEN MINDED, BALANCED.
The idea is to make our students more empathetic towards others and help those who might feel a little bit sad to make new friends.
Our Prefects think this is a good idea because everyone deserves to spend a good time with friends and feel wanted.
Students volunteer to become Playground Buddies and they wear a pin so that everyone can recognise them and knows they are there to help.
Congratulations to the students for this initiative and to our first Playground Buddies!
