Y3 - SHARING LEARNING
Last week, Form 3 students enthusiastically shared their learning of Unit 4, “ Where we are in place and time”. The Central idea was “Throughout time humans have been driven to explore the world and make new discoveries”.
The students worked in groups for several weeks with the aim of presenting their learning, for the first time, to teachers from other year groups as well as members of the Junior Management Team. The learning they undertook covered curriculum areas such as Language (Myths and Legends), Spanish (voyages of Columbus, Solís, Magellan-Elcano and Gaboto) and History (Vikings) and concepts related to Exploration and Migration.
During the process students developed a self-evaluation sheet which they used regularly to reflect on the different Approaches To Learning (ATLs) and how they were developing them. These gave them a sense of ownership and prompted them to agree on how to improve their skills as they worked in groups.
The ATLs consist of five interrelated skills: self-management, social, communication, thinking, and research skills. These skills are fundamental to developing students’ ability to be self-regulated learners and support students’ sense of agency.
We congratulate all Form 3 students and teachers for such an enjoyable and successful experience!
