World Book and Copyright Day 2017

World Book and Copyright Day is an opportunity to highlight the power of books to promote our vision of knowledge societies that are inclusive, pluralistic, equitable, open and participatory for all citizens.

It is said that how a society treats its most vulnerable is a measure of its humanity. When we apply this measure to the availability of books to those with visual impairments and those with learning or physical disabilities (with different causes), we are confronted with what can only be described as a ‘book famine’.

Conakry, capital of the Republic of Guinea is a port city opened by a wide cornice on the
Atlantic Ocean, which has more than 2 million inhabitants making it one of the most important African cities. Located in West Africa, Guinea is open on the Atlantic Ocean, bordered to the South by Liberia and Sierra Leone, on the North by Senegal and Guinea Bissau, on the East by Mali and Côte d'Ivoire.

The historic center of Conakry is located on the peninsula of Kaloum, Tombo. The city wasthen largely overwhelmed inland, in the image of geographic and demographic of all great metropolises growth African. 

The city flourished as a port of export, especially after the construction of the railway line leading to Kankan, in the centre of the country. It is also the seat of the institutions and the administrative, political, economic and cultural center.
